What Mindfulness Isn’t - Common Misconceptions

Simply, it’s not about clearing your mind. None of us are good at that! And it’s never been the point. But it is a creative story most of us have told ourselves to shy us away from even trying.

It’s more about slowing down enough to clearly hear what our minds have been trying to tell us. Often those things we’ve been attempting to outrun that have finally caught up (Maybe you’re experiencing how ineffective this approach can be?). It’s seeing what’s really here, at any given moment, rather than what we think is here or what may have been there in the past that we are grasping onto or anticipating. It’s about tapping into our own inner wisdom. Accessing our truths beyond the story and meeting ourselves exactly where we are with greater understanding and support through it all.

You are the only human you’ll spend every moment of your life with. What might it be like to be the true love of your own dang life? You deserve to know deeply, support, and love all the parts that make up the perfectly-human, beautiful person you are.

If that feels unfamiliar, inviting, uncomfortable, curious, or any other kind of way, this is the space for you.

Mindfulness isn’t a religion or belief system, it’s secular—a way of paying closer attention to our experience with openness and curiosity. It can sit comfortably alongside whatever beliefs or traditions we hold, and may even deepen our connection to the values and beliefs that give our lives meaning, whatever that is for you. ALL are welcome, truly.

“Over the last 2 years, I’ve taken the MBSR course twice and multiple Silent Retreats with Nikki, and most recently an MSC course with Nikki and Andra. It’s difficult to put into a review just how much I’ve learned and grown through the experiences. I’ve become more aware of my own reactions, learned to meet myself with less judgment, navigate stress differently, set healthier boundaries, and offer myself the same compassion I so easily give to others; and even that barely captures everything I’ve taken away from this work.”
